[18 April 2020] BookCrossing Newsletter: Settings as “opt in” means that it will be sent directly to your email address.
The opportunity to make changes is available if someone wish to do so.
How do someone opt out?
You are able to opt out by making the change in your profile by going to “Edit Profile”, or by using the handy link below:
https://www.bookcrossing.com/editprofile#NotificationPrefs
Under “Notification Preferences” you will see that the option to “Receive Newsletter” is the first item on the list.
Simply select from the 2 options: “Yes, please” or “No, thank you”
== I’m currently “opt in” because I wish to receive the Newsletter, what do I need to do?
The answer to this is very simple. You do not need to do anything
A brief note about GDPR Compliance.
GDPR is a piece of legislation that was approved in April 2016. It replaces a previous law called the Data Protection Directive and is aimed at harmonizing rules across the 28-nation EU bloc. The aim of the legislation is to give consumers control of their personal data collected by companies.
BookCrossing holds information of its Members, that the Members themselves have entered into their profile upon registering to open an account. You as a Member, have full access to understanding what information of yours is stored by BookCrossing, by accessing your profile and selecting “Edit Profile”, or by using the handy link below:
https://www.bookcrossing.com/editprofile#NotificationPrefs
Other than your email address, to open a BookCrossing account, you are not required to enter any other personal information.
At this time BookCrossing does not share your personal details with any third parties, and should this change in the future, you will be contacted beforehand to notify you of such changes.
Under the GDPR legislation, you have the right to be ‘forgotten’, and this can be done by closing your account by contacting BookCrossing’s Volunteer Support Team, using the “Contact Us” button found at the bottom of any page within the BookCrossing Website. Upon closing your account, all of your personal details are deleted from the BookCrossing website and are no longer stored.
